Availability and Scalability: Oracle Database 10g offers higher scalability, availability, and low-cost clustering through Oracle Real Application Clusters. This leads to a reduced delivery time, which in turn reduces the downtime cost.  

High Level Security: Oracle Database 10g has unique security features that cater to requirements in the fields of privacy, regulatory fulfillment, and data consolidation, including row-level security, well grained auditing, and clear data encryption.

Oracle Database: Oracle Database 10g is the premiere Grid Computing enabled database. It has following important features:

Self-Managing Database: To aid self-management and auto tuning of the database, Oracle supports a persistent store called automatic workload repository (AWR), which collects memory statistics, and the automatic database diagnostic monitor (ADDM). It monitors and analyzes statistics and provides advisory services.

Simplified Configuration of Shared Servers:  The configuration of shared servers and their connected dispatchers has been made dynamic.

 Transaction Manageability: It enables us in monitoring normal transactions recovered by SMON. It also provides the facility of viewing the historical information about transaction recovery and transaction rollback. Also, Oracle 10g pre-configures objects for maximum concurrency.

Simplified Statistics Collection:  The 10g version provides the facility of analyzing both the real and fixed dictionary tables, in order to get better performance. There are several new procedures that have been introduced to streamline and simplify the compute statistics operation of dictionary objects.

 Extended Support for FGA (Fine Grain Audit):  This feature provides additional fine grain audit support for ‘insert’, ‘delete’, and ‘update’ statements.

 Response File Creation during Database Installation:  With Oracle Database 10g we get the benefit of true silent capability. When running OUI in silent mode on a character mode console, we no longer need to specify an X-server or set the Display environment variable on UNIX. No GUI classes are instantiated.

 Oracle Forms / Reports
Oracle Application Server is an integrated infrastructure and we use it to implement and manage enterprise applications on an Internet model. It combines many runtime services such as application runtime environment to deploy J2EE and Forms applications as services, to access the services via an enterprise Portal from fixed and mobile devices, to integrate these applications with legacy systems, and to deliver business intelligence both query and analysis and reporting. Together with these, Oracle Application Server provides a common deployment environment with common security services, management facilities, scalability and availability architecture.

Oracle has deployed the runtime environment of Oracle Designer (Web PL/SQL), Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports within the Oracle Application Server for following reasons

Deploy applications to 3-tier architecture: Through Oracle we provided you with the ability to move seamlessly from character-mode to client-server and from client-server to a 3- tier web based models. Oracle provides features and migration utilities to allow its Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports customers to upgrade their applications from client/server to the web without having to recode their applications or migrate to any alternate technology.

Interoperate and extend applications:  By deploying Oracle we provide specific facilities to allow Forms and Reports applications to co-exist and interoperate with other applications deployed to Oracle Application Server. Specifically: Oracle Forms have a runtime interface to raise Java/J2EE applications or Web Services, Oracle Forms and Reports applications can be showcased in Oracle Portals, and other such facilities. These services are deployed by DIL to use either set of development technologies provided by Oracle to build enterprise applications that can interoperate with each other.
